This story is about Lemuel Gulliver's travels in sixteen years that is divided in four parts:
Part I: A Voyage to Liliput and Blefuscu
Part II: A Voyage to Brobdingnag
Part III: A Voyage to Laputa, Balnibarbi, Luggnagg, Glubbdubdrib, and Japan
Part IV: A Voyage to the Country of the Houyhnhnms
His voyage isn't an ordinary one. On his journey, he met unique creatures and bizarre cities. In Liliput, he met people with their height less than 6 inches. In Brobdingnag, he was found by a farmer who is 72 feet. In Laputa, he saw a flying island which its residents are so fond of with music and mathematics. In his last voyage, he met a horse country.
I have to admit I don't enjoy reading Gulliver's Travels. I know it's about a journey of Gulliver's adventure, where Swift explored about unusual countries and their people. But, I find Gulliver's Travels deadly boring. It has conveyed too many messages, for example about war, what human race basically do, what we capable of, etc. Unfortunately, Swift didn't write it in engaging way. It is too dry. It's like you read a report. You read Gulliver's ship was wrecked and met Liliputian, Gulliver's ship was attacked by pirates, Gulliver this, Gulliver that. Unbelievably boring.
Put aside about boringness, I quote here King of Brobdingnag's saying to Gulliver:
"... But by what I have gathered from your own relation, and the answers I have with much pains wrung and extorted from you, I cannot but conclude the bulk of your natives to be the most pernicious race of little odious vermin that nature ever suffered to crawl upon the surface of the earth."
From 1 - 5, I give 1 to Gulliver's Travels.

ReplyDeleteactually I am not into classical books, especially when there weren't romance in it. The only classic I'd enjoy is Jane Eyre though.
Aku belum nonton filmnya. Tapi, banyak yang bilang filmnya jelek sih.
